The Pinhole

The Lord will help us.
You're inside a dark room. No doors and no windows. You're stuck. No way out. Not sure how you got there. You're afraid, you're in extreme despair, you're alone. No one can hear you if you scream. No one can hear you if you cry. You can see nothing. What do you do?

You SPEAK. No need to fear, no need to anguish, no need to feel deserted, no need to yell, and no need to mourn. Speak out loud. Speak to the Lord. He will supply all you need. He is the light. Follow the light. There you will be able to see the pinhole you didn't see before. Yes the pinhole in the corner of the room. Look there. That is your way out. It was always there. Yes, the light shining so brightly. You just had to seek it out. Now walk towards it as you continue to speak. You see it getting bigger and bigger? Now you can leave that dark room.

The Lord heard you. He saw you. He even knew you would find yourself in that dark place. He just wanted your full attention so He put you there. He wants you faithful, because it is you He chose to get others out of darkness.

The pinhole. It is the source, more powerful than the darkness will ever be. It will give you life in order to help others find the way out.

It May Be You

People are not always against us, it may just be us.
Do you ever wonder?

Why we hardly ever get what we want? Or why things are hard for us most of the time? Or why people don't have a positive reaction to us? Or why opportunities rarely come our way?

Has it ever occurred to you that perhaps it may be you? Yep, we may be the one sabotaging our own progress.

When I lived in California my son's teacher told me he wasn't working on the level he should have been and I dismissed his teacher as someone who didn't know what she was talking about. My attitude was, 'Didn't she know my son was advanced? Who did she think she was telling me he should be retained? How dare she. This was my genius little boy. She wasn't around when he said all the advanced things at home or how he was able to figure out things his dad or I couldn't. She didn't have a clue."

After I left California and moved to South Carolina, I started hearing some of the same things from his new teachers. 'He's a good kid, but he can work harder, and he's a class clown.' 'Huh? Work harder? Class clown?' This can't be.

Yet I had to face the truth.

The teachers in California didn't plot against my son with the teachers in South Carolina. There was no conspiracy against him. There was no covert operation to stop him. There was no top secret manifesto to hinder his growth. There was no clandestine mission to retain him or treat him unfairly to stop his progress. It was him. He wasn't working to his capacity and he should have been retained in kindergarten like the teacher in California recommended. He would have been a better overall student for it. Yet I was too na├»ve and too prideful to know the difference. Eventually he did push through it, but not without having to play catch up with other unnecessary struggles, which were in large part my fault. When I finally accepted the reality, I was able to put things in place at home that helped him become successful and I worked with his wonderful teachers to make him accountable. It was a constant challenge and it wasn't easy. Thankfully he was able to make up for those deficiencies and is now in college with a great GPA.

Why are you always the odd man out?
What we may be going through may not be due to anyone who is against us or any system that is trying to stop us.

Maybe it's our own negative attitude, maybe it's our lack of initiative because we never try anything new, maybe it's our constant complaining, maybe it's the music we listen to that gets in our system, maybe we watch the same shows that make us believe we're right and everyone else is wrong. Maybe maybe maybe.

Perhaps it's time for us to change instead of thinking everyone else should. How can it possibly be the world against us? The world doesn't know us. The world is caught up in their own things, their own life. If our approach changes and we remain consistent in positive change, then opportunities may open up for us. We need to ask ourselves, would I want to hang out with me?

Let's look inside ourselves as we realize that if the same issues follow us, then it's a high probability that it's not everyone else, it's more than likely us, just as it was my son. Let's just face that it may be us who's holding ourselves back.

The good news is that we can indeed get what we want, but not without doing the hard work first and that means looking at ourselves for real. Considering, good people want to help good people, good people want to work with good people, and good people want to live with good people, we will find there are good people who want to cheer for us. They want to help us, but we have to help ourselves first. No one else can (or should) do it for us.

There can exist a new us, but it must start with us.

Green Tea

I love hot green tea. It tastes good and it's encouraging. Encouraging, because the many years I have been reading about green tea, just about every study has found it to be a plus for health especially when it comes to fighting cancer and heart disease. So when I can find something that tastes good and is healthy, I'm going to run towards it, because some healthy food tastes urrrrgh, you know what I mean.

Although green tea is not the end all be all, it's a good start to good health and I need all the help I can get. If you have read some of my posts on Facebook, then you know I dislike exercise, but everything that is good for me, won't be pretty so I have to do it. Thankfully green tea fits in the pretty category, because it's easy to drink.

Green tea seems to be celebrated in Okinawa, Japan. When I was stationed over there and we went off base, all we saw were people walking, riding their bikes, and drinking tea. Tea over there (like coffee over here) is still their social norm. That's why lower rates of cancer and heart disease are common in Japan and why their life expectancy is longer than ours.

Green tea is something I celebrate, because it offers a great way for me to feel healthy and to see the results I desire. I love the taste and it encourages me to go to the next level in my overall health. I am still a huge work in progress and I have a long way to go, but green tea is the friend that is smart for me to keep around.

Btw, just about every study I have read refers to hot green tea having better health benefits than cold green tea.

The 33% Rule

I read somewhere about The 33% RULE:

The bottom 33% suck the life out of you, they give up, and nothing ever satisfies them. The middle 33% are happy but only when things are going well, you can't depend on them during down/hard times. The top 33% have a positive attitude no matter what, they dont get mad when people disagree with them, the top 33% are leaders, influencers, the go-to people, the game-changers. Which one are you?

When I Want to Know

When I want to know who someone is, all I have to do is look at their friends.

Your reference group determines about 95% of your success or failure in life. ~John Maxwell~

Jim Rohn said, 'we become the combined average of the five people we hang with the most. We can tell the quality of our health, attitude, and income by those people. We start to eat what they eat, talk like they talk, read what they read, think like they think, listen to the music they listen to, watch what they watch, and dress like they dress.' When I want to know who someone is, all I have to do is look at their friends.

So You Want to Quit?

I will never give up, because God is on my side.
We all want to throw in the towel every now and then.

It's a regular emotion to get over burdened and overloaded with life's issues. I don't know anyone who never wanted to quit something. Do you? I'm not saying they actually quit, I'm saying they wanted to quit. So wanting to and doing it are two entirely different things.

Last January I had to take my fitness test. The running part of it was the hardest, because I wasn't running that much to stay in shape. I was in ok shape, but I had a ways to go still. After about 10 minutes into the run I wanted to stop, because I realized I had started out too fast and I wasn't in that kind of shape. After every step I thought really hard about quitting and then I thought again, ok if I quit now I will be further away from my goal of finishing. My body hurt, my head was throbbing, and that finish line didn't seem like it would ever come. The thought of starting all over again was even more painful, so I decided to continue. I prayed and prayed as I was having a conversation with Jesus. I finally finished the run and when I was given my time I was elated, but happy it was finally over. I was in pain, but it was over thank God. I had finished. The race was done, but not without a price, not without a cost. Was it worth it? Was it expensive? Yes and yes. As I walked back to my car and later that day on my way home, I was reminded of what the word of God says about success. We already have success, we already have the win, we just need to walk into it. In other words that run was already mine and I had already finished it successfully. I just had to show up, put in the work, and enjoy the success. I didn't quit, but I'm telling you I wanted to almost every step of the way.

Don't quit, because the bullseye is right ahead of you. The win is already yours. The race is already won. None of it will be easy though and "once you learn to quit it becomes a habit." ~Vince Lombardi~

Finish it, because you can do it.

Growth

"Growth always comes from taking action and taking action almost always brings criticism. Move forward anyway.

Sooooo, what area do I need to grow in? Ha, where in the world do I start? Finances, check. Fitness,

check. Impatience, check. Reading my bible more, check (can we ever read too much?). Keeping my house clean, check (there's no excuse with the boys gone). Being more organized, check (papers are all over my house and why can I keep my work papers organized, but not my personal papers?). So what do I do with being hit in so many areas? I tackle each thing one day at a time, otherwise I will start to get overwhelmed and finish none of them. Like yesterday on the track for instance. I jogged 3 miles. There were other people out there who seemed to be in better and worse shape than me, but I was not concerned about them. I was focused on what I had to do. It took forever to finish, but I finished. So yesterday I tackled one of my growth areas. And it doesn't matter if I wasn't able to get everything done in every growth area. I'm taking one day at a time and I will finish in the long run. It doesn't matter if people are already waiting and celebrating at the finish line or if other people come in after me. We can all finish.

To reach your potential, you must do not only what others believe you cannot do, but what even you believe you cannot do." ~John Maxwell~

Chin Up

They turned their backs on you huh? You're feeling misunderstood? They told lies about you? It seems they're all having fun and not you? Just stay on your post. Don't get distracted. Continue the training. Your success is coming. You may be alienated now and the attacks may be coming fast and furious. Yet soon you will be like Neo in the first Matrix movie. When the bullets come at you, you will look in silence and utter peace at their coming and you will tilt your head to one side as you slowly put out your hand to stop them. You will be calm and cool 'cuz you can't help it. You're just cool like that (that's their problem, your coolness urks them). Then the bullets will fall to the ground. They may come for you, but they can't touch you. They will be no threat.

You will be the last one standing. They will watch you go to your bank accounts. They will watch and wonder in amazement how you (ha ha, God) did it. They will be scratching their heads over and over again forever.

Pull your chin up. It's just a matter of time.
The first will be last and the last will be first (Matthew 19:30).

Lord

You want His number? You want to call Him? Here you go: Romans 10:13.

You're welcome. Anytime babe. Anytime.

Don't Even Think About It!

God has much in store for you.
Change those thoughts! I know what you're thinking 'cuz I was just there a few minutes ago, a few hours ago, a few days ago, a few weeks ago, a few months ago, and a few years ago. So what does that tell you? That those moments of anxiety or that overwhelming feeling that you can't make it or that it can't get any worse, are temporary thoughts. Joy does in fact come in the morning (or the next minute, hour, day, week, month or the next year). I'm telling you because I just overcame a major challenge and some are still here, but I know what was promised to me from God. He said there is much more for you and that includes you too. Just follow the light, because it shines brighter than anything. In the light, you can see.

Yes

Keep your eyes and ears open for a "Yes", 'cuz it's coming.

Thick and Thin

I always said you can tell the haters when something really really good happens in your life or when something really really bad happens in your life. When the good happens, those same people who were "in your corner" will be so jealous they can't see straight and when the bad happens, those same people who were "cheering for you", won't want anything to do with you.

So what are you gonna do? Just stay focused on your goals and keep moving forward. I heard a pastor say, "when you discover your assignment, it will reveal your enemies." Isn't that the truth?

Keep the people who show up through thick and thin, through the ups and downs, through the peaks and valleys, close to you. Those should be the people whose opinion makes a difference in your life.

The Right Time

At the right time, you're going to take off and God is going to take your places you never thought you would go. Timing is crucial. Have faith. Keep your faith.
Soarrrrrrrrr.

Be Different

Don't be afraid to be different, don't be afraid to be the odd one out, don't be afraid to stand alone, don't be afraid to be alone, don't be afraid to be lonely, don't be afraid to be isolated, don't be afraid to be alienated, don't be afraid to be misunderstood, don't be afraid to be called crazy or weird, don't be afraid to be called a nerd....Anyone who is chosen to be a serious leader will have to go through those things at some point. It's part of the process. If you're saying, well I AM afraid, well you're in good company. And what I'd say to that is just do it anyway, because that's what great leaders do.

"For many are called, but few are chosen" ~Matthew 22:14~

It Doesn't Matter

I have to do the will of God and I will be protected. He protects us in one way or another. I'm going to do things His way. So it doesn't matter if people don't get it.

For those of us who take chances, it's not easy putting ourselves out there.

It wasn't easy for Esther either. Remember her? Just read about her. There's even a book in the bible named after her. She's one of my favorite people, because she put herself out there and it paid off big time. Love that about her.

How many people can do what she did? Raise your hands if you would take a risk of that magnitude.

Choices

'You can be pitiful or powerful. It's your decision.' I'm not sure where I heard that quote, but it's goooood right? No one can take my power away unless I give them that authority.

I made my decision. I'm powerful.

Loooong Way

I have a long way to go in so many areas of my life, but guess what? I'm staying in the race baby and I will have the victory. It's a long race and I will continue to train. Training will never end. Training is mandatory.

Mistakes

I make mistakes in life and then I move on. At any given moment I shift between a WIP (Work in Progress) to a POW (Piece of Work) then back and forth. LOL at myself sometimes. Nothing wrong with laughing at ourselves sometimes. It's human.
God forgives us no matter what.

Bible Study

Celebrate the holy spirit.
Tonight I had a great time at bible study. It was basically the same message as service, Sunday. It was about being in the right house of God. I'm glad for the holy spirit. That's when God "speaks" to you in one way or another. That's my simple explanation of it. Ttyl.

The Light

My Direct TV is off so I'm watching someone I didn't think I would ever watch. It's not that I had any particular feelings about this man, I just never watched his shows. His name is Jimmy Swaggart. Yes, Pastor Jimmy Swaggart and I like what he's saying. Just now he said he told God that he feels the closest to him than he's ever felt and now he can see how flawed he (Swaggart) is. Then God told him that when you get closer to the light, you can see many things and all your imperfections are amplified. When you're farther away from the light you can hardly see and you think you're ok. But how can you see in the dark? Powerful huh? I'm so glad my Direct TV is off.

Jentezen Franklin

Isn't Jentezen the coolest name? I like it 'cuz it's different. I like different names, different people, different foods, and different places. So it's no wonder that Jentezen Franklin is a pastor (besides my local pastor of course) who speaks to me. Lately I've been really soaking in his sermons, especially the one, titled DNA of a Leader (check it out on youtube). Anyhoo, http://www.jentezenfranklin.org/about/ will give you more insight. Btw, more on my local church to come.

The Right Thing

We need each other.
It's hard doing the right thing 24/7, but we should strive to anyway. I've made SO many mistakes, it's embarrassing to think of them. Yet we must strive to do what's right and when we slip, apologize to the person or the people and most importantly, to God. We are human, we are going to get it wrong sometimes, but apologizing releases so much on us. Why not just apologize? It's nothing wrong with doing that. In fact, it's the right thing to do.

I just wish we would strive to do the right thing even if we don't get it right. It's just nice being around people who go out their way to do that, because their heart is in the right place. I love dealing with people with hearts like that. It's great, because you can see their spirit -- the greatness that lives in them rubs off of you. Who wouldn't want that?
